Talented Brothers Thriving in Business

Growing up, James and Cameron Gray had an innate passion for engines, spending their childhood tinkering with motorbikes, boats, and any machinery they could get their hands on.

Fast forward to 2011, and armed with their mechanical expertise, as well as experience in electronics and coal mining, the twin brothers embarked on a new venture together. They founded Recon Industries Australia in Newcastle, utilising their skills to carve a niche in the market.

“Our ability to disassemble and reassemble things was exceptional,” James recalls. “Our father, a skilled boilermaker, also contributed to our upbringing in this field. He still assists us occasionally.”

Recon Industries specialises in the manufacturing of specialised machinery and equipment, ranging from tracked and wheeled loaders and carriers to electric tugs for airports. With a dedicated team of 4-5 staff and contractors spread across Australia, the company has garnered a reputation for delivering custom-made solutions of the highest quality. And at the heart of their machinery lie DEUTZ engines, the only engines they trust.

Their preferred engine models include the DEUTZ TD 2011 L04I and the TCD2013 L04 2V, compliant with Tier 3 emission standards in less regulated markets and higher emission standards in more regulated markets.

One notable creation is the MLHD Series 2, equipped with a DEUTZ engine and a land clearing head, which they showcased at a recent Dirt and Diesel expo. This remarkable machine operates on steep slopes and challenging terrains, surpassing the capabilities of standard machinery, while remaining lightweight enough to be towed by a 4×4 utility vehicle.

“We only use top-quality components sourced from trusted suppliers, and our OEM status ensures excellent support from our partners,” James emphasises.

Recon Industries prides itself on its adaptability in meeting customers’ unique requirements, and James and Cameron prioritise ensuring that their machinery offers exceptional returns on investment (ROI).

In addition to their professional pursuits, both James and Cameron serve as volunteer firefighters with the NSW Rural Fire Service. They speak highly of DEUTZ engines, emphasising their reliability and the exceptional aftermarket support they receive.

“The high quality, durability, and long lifespan of DEUTZ engines are vital to the success of our machinery range,” James affirms. “Their unparalleled quality is unrivalled.”

He further adds, “DEUTZ always goes the extra mile, eager to provide assistance and find workable solutions for any challenges we encounter. We cannot recommend them highly enough.”
