Ted Kuhlwind, who previously worked for DEUTZ in Germany before moving to Melbourne and marrying his Australian wife Lorna, naturally gravitated towards selling DEUTZ products in his diesel engine business.

In 1967, Ted, along with his business partner Lloyd Lang, established LK Diesel Service Pty Ltd after arriving in Australia to contribute to the bus building industry. Following his stint in bus building, Ted worked as a service technician for DEUTZ, repairing trucks, buses, and tractors, before embarking on his entrepreneurial journey.

Today, Ted’s sons, Mike and Bernard, proudly own and manage LK Diesel. Renowned for their reliability and efficiency, the company specialises in servicing country trains, mining equipment, construction machinery, generators, pumping units, and airport ground support equipment.

LK Diesel supplies and services a wide range of industrial diesel engines, generators, and pump sets, catering to various industries including mining, rail, construction, and agriculture across Australia and the Asia/Pacific region.

As the Service/Workshop Manager, Mike oversees operations, while Bernard handles the Office/IT Manager responsibilities. Chris, Bernard’s son, also contributes to the family business. Despite being retired, Ted and Lorna frequently visit the workshop, maintaining a strong connection to their business roots.

With three generations actively involved, this family enterprise possesses a wealth of knowledge and expertise across multiple domains. “We hold steadfast to our family values and possess extensive experience in various fields,” affirms Mike. “We deeply understand the requirements of our customers.”

Having been honored with the distinction of the best-performing Australian DEUTZ dealer in 2016, LK Diesel takes immense pride in selling all DEUTZ engine models and leveraging their years of experience to match customers with the perfect product.

Mike highlights the exceptional quality of DEUTZ engines, available in air-cooled, oil-cooled, and water-cooled variants. “We appreciate the simplicity of air-cooled engines and the technological advancements of water-cooled engines,” he explains.

“For irrigation pumps, DEUTZ air-cooled engines are unrivaled, as they eliminate concerns of internal corrosion during non-irrigation seasons.”

The Kuhlwind family shares a long-standing and proud partnership with DEUTZ, fostered through trust, experience, and a mutual respect for the product. “The DEUTZ staff feels like family to us,” adds Mike.

“DEUTZ’s comprehensive online parts system and easily accessible technical information greatly facilitate our operations.” he says.
