The renowned trade magazine DIESEL has awarded the prestigious title of Diesel of the Year to the new DEUTZ TCD 9.0 engine.
This four-cylinder engine with a 9-litre cubic capacity is specifically designed for heavy-duty construction equipment and agricultural machinery, delivering an impressive power output of 300 kW.
The Diesel of the Year award is given annually to the most innovative engine in the industry. DEUTZ previously received this accolade in 2010 for its compact TCD 2.9 engine. DIESEL magazine, a leading European trade publication in the sector, has been reporting on diesel engine development and applications for 22 years.
In addition to this recognition, the TCD 9.0 engine was recently included in the “Top Ten New Products of 2017” by the trade magazine “OEM Off-Highway.”
Part of a new engine family, the DEUTZ TCD 9.0 four-cylinder in-line engine generates 300 kW of power and 1,700 Nm of torque. It significantly expands the upper end of DEUTZ’s power range, along with the TCD 12.0 (400 kW / 2,500 Nm) and the TCD 13.5 (450 kW / 2,800 Nm) six-cylinder in-line engines.
The family platform concept ensures a standardised customer interface and an identical front and rear design, simplifying integration and maintenance tasks. With approximately 65 percent of common parts, the engines reduce complexity in servicing and optimise inventory management. The TCD 18.0 six-cylinder in-line engine, generating 620 kW and 3,600 Nm of torque, will be introduced in the future to occupy the upper end of DEUTZ’s power range.
All four engines will enter series production in 2019, in line with EU Stage V standards. These engines cater specifically to heavy-duty construction equipment and agricultural machinery with demanding power and torque requirements.
Equipped with advanced technologies, the new engines feature:
- Crossflow cylinder heads.
- A downspeeding function for fuel consumption and noise reduction.
- A common rail system operating at an injection pressure of 2,200 bar.
- The ability for 100 percent power take-off from both the belt and flywheel sides.
The four-cylinder TCD 9.0 engine achieves the same smooth running characteristics as the larger six-cylinder engines thanks to dynamic balancing weights.
In the upper power output range, DEUTZ’s new in-line diesel engines offer an ideal solution for heavy-duty applications from both technical and commercial perspectives.
Furthermore, DEUTZ plans to introduce electric drive systems under its E-DEUTZ strategy for the lower power output range. Customers will have the flexibility to choose the optimal combination of conventional and electric drive components for their specific applications.
By significantly improving emissions and efficiency, DEUTZ aims to become a market leader in innovative drive systems for the off-highway sector, aiming to gain a competitive advantage over its rivals.
