DEUTZ History

DEUTZ began at a proud time in history, when the world was introduced to the mass production of engines. Way back in the 1860s DEUTZ led the way, as it does today.

In 1864, the world’s first engine factory was established by Nicolaus August Otto and Eugen Langen. Known as N.A. Otto & Cie., it later became DEUTZ AG.

The business started in the German town of Cologne with a small workshop and a few employees. From these humble beginnings grew an enterprise with world-leading engine technology and strong partners globally.

Otto and Eugen helped to motorise the world and facilitate a freedom of movement that is now fundamental to our modern way of life.

Since 1952, DEUTZ teams in Australia and later New Zealand and the South Pacific have been part of our remarkable story, taking quality DEUTZ products to markets throughout the region.

Globally, DEUTZ is now represented in 130 countries and has about 4,500 employees.
